About us

Since our establishment in 1720, Okuhida Shuzo has operated our sake brewery in Kanayama Town, Gero City, which prospered during the Edo period as a post town.
Our sake are made from clear underground water that could only be obtained at the point where the clear-flowing waters of the Hida River and Maze River converge. Centering on locally produced Hidahomare rice—an excellent rice variety for sake-making—, our Master Brewer spares no effort in painstakingly brewing our sake. Our representative sake brands are Okuhida and Hatsumidori.

As a sake-making museum, our Brewery Headquarters was designated by Gifu Prefecture as a “Street Corner Art Museum” where there are old account books and various precious artifacts from days gone by on display, including old sake-making tools and Girls’ Festival dolls dating back some 200 years.

Greetings from the Company President

11代目蔵元 高木千宏

In 2020, Okuhida Shuzo Co.,Ltd., was blessed to celebrate the 300th anniversary of its establishment.
That we were able to reach this tremendous milestone is entirely due to everyone’s generous support and cooperation, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Our sake-making business was established here in Hida-Kanayama by “Yoshidaya” Takichi in 1720.
My grandfather Takagi Takichi (Kohei) established Takagi Shuzo Co.,Ltd., in 1952, later obtaining a license to manufacture vodka in 1959.
In 1981, our company began exporting products overseas (to Singapore).
To promote Hida reagion not only in Japan but around the world, the company name was changed to Okuhida Shuzo Co.,Ltd., to mirror the name of our main sake brand.

During our 300-year history, Okuhida Shuzo has faced many difficult challenges, and the fact that we are still able to carry on making sake today is entirely thanks to all those who have supported us so generously over the years, as well as all our brewers and staff who have sustained us at each stage of our history, and I am truly grateful to everyone. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

With our eyes towards the next 10, 20, and 100 years, we intend to cherish our history this far while also taking on new challenges with the aim of being a company that can contribute to even more to the local community and region.
I humbly ask for your continuing support in the future.
